Internship at the Museu Nacional de Arqueologia "Learning Hands-On." |
In June of 2007, Camille Sogin, who had just recently graduated from high school, began interning at the National Museum of Archaeology, in Lisbon, Portugal. Camille has also worked with osteological materials from the Sacavem Museum and the Geological Museum through programs conducted by PortAnta. Currently, she is taking a wanderjahre (of sorts) to learn more about archaeology and archaeological methods while working on sites in both Portugal and Spain. Camille will conclude her internship at the museum in May of 2008 and her work will be utilized by the collaborators for the Torre de Palma Monographic Series, Vols. I and II. We are glad to have her here working in Portugal with us and hope that her search for the college that is the "perfect fit" is going well! |

Experiencing 2007 Exchange Program – U.S., Greece and Portugal Connection |
In July of 2007, our society sent member João Vilaça to Greece to work with the crew from Sikyon, in the northern Peloponnese of Greece. The Sikyon Survey Project director, Dr. Yannis Lolos from the University of Thessaly, conducted field surveying and excavations in the territory of Sikyon and João was fortunate enough to be a part of this amazing experience! The IPS-AIA chapter would like to thank Yannis Lolos and Eleni Hasaki for making this happen! When João said that his dream was to excavate in “Ancient Greece”, he never thought that it would happen during his freshmen year at the Universidade de Lisboa. |
